Joshua Evans is a British furniture designer and maker who has been creating bespoke pieces inspired by his English heritage giving his designs a refined modern look.
He spent ten years living in Southern California where he started honing his craft of fine furniture and furniture design. After ten years Joshua has returned to England to focus further on small scale production and the definitive look only something handmade can attain.
For Joshua his ethos to “create and be creative” is woven into every part of his life. With his extensive knowledge in woodworking and his experience in traveling and living in California for the last ten years he’s been able to interact with different cultures and life philosophies. He creates a unique perspective in furniture and holds the belief that as an artisan he has a responsibility to the trees and materials used in his projects as a continuation of their life and to plant new trees for every piece made to further guarantee future craftsmen can enjoy the experience of sustainable building and our connection to this world.
There and back again.
Originally from Ilfracombe North Devon I was born and raised on the beautiful coastline of the south west of England. Here I was able to experience the fresh salt air and warm summer nights spent at the beach with friends. I had the opportunity to learn about carpentry and joinery from a young age and completed my city & guilds of London Institute at nineteen years old. After graduating a turn of fate lead me to California and the beautiful golden coastline. Here I was able to explore and express my self in furniture and for the first time seeing that this was the course I wanted to pursue for my career. After launching my furniture business Evans Joinery in 2015 I had the pleasure of serving some wonderful clients from Hotels such as The Montage Hotel in Laguna Beach CA, Lido House Hotel in Newport Beach as well as Interior Designers Brooke Wagner Designs, Diana Tomei & Blackband Design. This lead to a wonderful career in Southern California. My wife and I now parents and wanting our daughter to experience the rolling hills and fresh air of the Devon Coastline decided to move back to Ilfracombe and continue our journey back in England.
